Nissen and Gehl
Gramrode Møbelfabrik has worked with the architects Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl MDD for many years.
Apprenticed as cabinet-makers from Rud with Rasmussens joiners' shops in Copenhagen, Denmark, Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl graduated with high honours as designers from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' School of Design. In the following years they worked at different architect offices and design schools in Denmark and abroad. The furniture design partnership 'Nissen and Gehl' was formed in 1970. Their work is characterised by a commitment to sustainability centred on the maxim "nothing is less ecological than a product with a short shelf-life".
Best known designs from Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl are the "Danish Modern Collection". The "Danish Modern Collection" is a complete range of furniture for all the rooms in a home. Danish Modern Collection is a co-operation between 2 furniture factories Gramrode Møbelfabrik A/S and Aksel Kjersgaard A/S.
Company Profile
Gramrode Møbelfabrik was founded in 1924. From the beginning the production was mostly easy chairs and sofas with visible wooden frames. In 1960 the production of dining room furniture in solid wood based on a unique mix of workmanship and design started. In the following years the company has succeeded in developing a comprehensive range of chairs and tables, which today is being exported all over the world. It takes precision and professional skills to manufacture furniture in solid hardwood. Our cabinet-makers know how to use their crafts and put an honour in keeping up the best traditions from the classic cabinet maker skill.
